A private ‘paradise’ island that is famous for its stunning beauty and an excellent for getaway from it all. On this island, stands a peaceful resort that would attend and satisfy the needs of those looking to escape the loop of monotonous everyday life or just simply seeking a different environment to relax.
Being a resort, the energy requirement to operate and maintain daily festivities for Nikoi Island resort is huge and expensive. The resort requires a better energy system that could save diesel consumption for generators and therefore saving money.
This is where CE comes in. On February 2012, CE has successfully installed an economically feasible system with 104 solar panels. This 24kWp off-grid PV system would generate a total energy of 32MWh/ year which covers 30% of the resort’s total energy needs. In addition, a battery bank consisting of 48 batteries was installed to store the excess electricity that is produced either by the panels or the generators for later use.
8 Outback inverters are installed to enable energy generated from the generators to be stored in the batteries or to power the DC fridges, as well as to convert DC from the panels to AC form in order to be used for other facilities.
Beside the installed solar system, the resort also bought 9 new energy saving DC refrigeration units under CE’s recommendation to further decrease energy requirements as they make up roughly 38% of the total energy consumption. The DC fridges consumes 8 times less energy as compared to the old fridges. Consequently, the total energy consumption for the resort is reduced by as much as 35%. Furthermore, diesel logistic costs, as well as CO2 emission decreases in the scale of tons every year.
