The Loola Adventure Resort in Bintan is an award-winning eco-resort aimed at the Singaporean leisure market. The resort only has a very limited grid-connection and Management actually wanted to be independent from the grid completely. When it was decided to ‘solarize’ the resort’s energy, provision of basic electricity for lights and kitchens was simple enough but air-conditioning of two new luxury private villas posed more of a challenge because the cooling would mostly be used only at night, which would normally require large and expensive battery banks.
Contained Energy provided an alternative solution with its ‘Thermal Energy Storage’ systems that utilize solar energy to run cooling compressors during the day and stores that cooling in a Phase Change Material thermal battery, to be delivered on demand at night. This system avoids 100 kWh electrical storage in batteries that would have to be replaced every 5 years or so.
Loola has recently been awarded further ‘green’ awards and the Solar Residential Cooling system by CE was a big part of that success.
The system is equipped with a Sunny WebBox monitoring system that enables the overall performance and yield to be displayed on its dedicated Sunny Portal web-page.
