Our ‘Savonius-type’ windmill is a good work-horse and very, very COST-efficient.
Though not as ‘wind-efficient’ as high-tech horizontal-axis wind turbines, it actually does a good job.
The type also offers important practical advantages:
- no need for pointing in the wind
- picks up the slightest, briefest of breezes
- low-tech, low speeds, low noise
- relatively small ‘foot-print’, easy to install in multiples
- easy to make retractable for storms and maintenance
To some, they even look quite elegant, turning, as they do, in unison,.....
